Organisers plan to make Tura Food Fest an annual affair.
TURA, Oct 16: Local farmers, food entrepreneurs and artisans showcased their produce and products at Tura’s first Food Fest on Friday, marking World Food Day with a push for healthy eating, sustainable agriculture and grassroots enterprise.
Held under the theme “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow,” the festival was organised by Minutiae in collaboration with The Night Fair at Sierra Motors Garage in Dakopgre, opposite Sora Complex.
Around 30 stalls featured fresh farm produce, regional delicacies, beverages, organic products and handcrafted goods, offering local entrepreneurs a platform to reach consumers and promote the region’s culinary heritage.
A nutrition awareness booth run by the Food and Nutrition Department of the College of Community Science highlighted the importance of healthy diets, while stalls displaying wooden crafts and other handmade products showcased the skills of local artisans.
Rangsakona MLA Subir Marak, who attended the festival, interacted with vendors and producers and stressed the need to improve awareness of nutritious food, particularly among children.
“Such food festivals are important as they also create awareness about nutritious and healthy diets. Due to a lack of awareness, children today are consuming junk food most of the time,” Marak said.
The organisers said the event sought to connect local producers with consumers while promoting sustainable farming, reducing food waste and addressing malnutrition. They also see food festivals as a way to encourage agro-tourism and strengthen community participation.
The festival featured live performances by local artists, the announcement of results of the 7 United Photography Challenge and a Tambola session.
Organisers Moreno of Minutiae, Imtila Jamir and Joey Felix Cheran of The Night Fair said they hoped to expand the festival and bring more farmers and entrepreneurs into the initiative.
They announced plans to make the Tura Food Fest an annual event, building on its inaugural edition to create a larger platform for local produce, food businesses and regional talent.
