Michael Douglas, who this year was named an “adopted son” of Mallorca by the Council of Mallorca has revealed this week what he loves most about Mallorca, where he has owned a property, S’Estaca, in Valldemossa for over 30 years.
“Our Mallorca house dates to 1867 and sits on 190 acres,” Douglas said, noting that the home directly overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. “We love being surrounded by nature and our serene view and privacy,” he told the Wall Street Journal.
Douglas first developed ties with Mallorca in the late 1980s and has since become one of the island’s most internationally recognised residents. His long-standing affection for the Tramuntana mountains and the village of Valldemossa has made him closely associated with the area, helping to draw global attention to Mallorca’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
Over the years, the actor, who spends a great deal of time on the island with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, has frequently spoken about the peace and inspiration he finds on the island, describing it as a place where he feels truly at home. Beyond his personal connection to Mallorca, Douglas has also become involved in projects aimed at preserving the island’s environment and traditions.
One of his current initiatives is Regenera Deià, a project focused on restoring ecosystems, reviving traditional land uses and encouraging the social and cultural regeneration of the municipality. The initiative reflects growing efforts across Mallorca to balance tourism with sustainability and environmental protection, particularly in sensitive rural and coastal areas.
Internationally, Douglas remains one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed actors and producers. The son of legendary actor Kirk Douglas, who once visited the island, he rose to fame through films such as Wall Street, Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct.
He also shed some light on some of his home’s amenities, including his “favourite” fuchsia armchair situated “next to an open window facing the sea.” He also has a “Trackman video setup in the wine cellar” that doubles as a golf simulator and a home theatre.
A number of A-listers have stayed at the stunning property, including Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jack Nicholson. Douglas considers Mallorca his “second home” and this summer he recorded the audio version of his memoir One Helluva Ride at the Palma Music Studios in Mallorca.
