The All Abuja Residents Association (AARA), an umbrella body of residents of the Federal Capital Territory drawn from Nigeria’s 36 states, has announced plans to honour Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Abia state governor Alex Otti, Kaduna state governor Uba Sani, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe among other public office holders for effective performance
The association said the proposed awards, scheduled for December 15, 2026, would recognise selected public office holders based on assessments conducted by its members and feedback from constituents.
Speaking at a press conference in Utako, Abuja, on Thursday, ARA National President, Igwekala Ugomaduefule, said the association considered the records of governors and elected representatives in selecting those to be honoured.
He said the nominations followed what he described as a painstaking assessment of their records and consultations on the impact of their leadership and representation.
Ugomaduefule said the initiative was intended to remind public office holders that their constituents monitored their activities and would assess their performance.
He urged the prospective recipients to sustain their efforts and do more to meet the expectations of the people they govern or represent.
The association said governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives and ministers from the six geopolitical zones were expected to be recognised at the ceremony.
Ugomaduefule called on the electorates to always hold elected public officials to account , adding that only when they are hold to account that development can strive.
