POSCO Future M is joining hands with U.S. company Palantir to launch full-scale AI-based manufacturing innovation.
POSCO Future M signed a contract on Oct. 21 to introduce Palantir’s data operation and analytics platform Foundry and its generative AI convergence platform AIP (Artificial Intelligence Platform). Palantir is a leading software company that connects dispersed data to decision-making and execution, supplying solutions across a range of industries including security, manufacturing and finance.
The agreement is an extension of the “BoT (Battery of Things) Ecosystem Game Changer” vision presented in July. POSCO Future M has been pursuing innovation in core operations since starting an AX (AI transformation) project in August based on company-wide process innovation (PI). The newly adopted platforms will first be applied to the sales and marketing divisions to advance customer response and collaboration capabilities.
Once the solutions are implemented, the company will be able to make swift decisions by integrating and analyzing data scattered across operations. At the heart of the initiative is the establishment of an “AI-native” system in which AI supports the entire process from work planning to execution, while humans make only the final decisions. After verifying results, POSCO Future M plans to gradually expand the scope of Foundry and AIP across company-wide innovation areas.
The company also presented concrete targets. Through AI-based manufacturing innovation, it aims to improve customer responsiveness in the sales and marketing divisions by more than 60% and raise manufacturing productivity by 30%. In particular, it plans to cut product development time to half of the current level to respond more nimbly to market changes.
The company is also strengthening internal capabilities in parallel. Through an in-house AI festival and specialist training programs, it is moving to establish a workplace culture that uses AI across its workforce. At present, 87 specialists who have completed the training are carrying out work to directly identify inefficiencies in actual business settings and make them more intelligent.
Outstanding cases selected at the festival are scheduled to be applied sequentially at worksites by the first half of 2027 after field testing and the collection of feedback. Over the mid to long term, POSCO Future M plans to create new business opportunities by building a platform that leads standards in the battery industry ecosystem based on data covering the entire process from product manufacturing to sales.
