Vice President Kashim Shettima has claimed that President Bola Tinubu provided political support to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar after he fell out with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including backing his presidential ambition in 2007.
Shettima made the claim on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna State, where party leaders gathered to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
According to the vice president, Tinubu accommodated Atiku politically after the former vice president was allegedly forced out of the PDP, providing him with a platform to pursue his presidential ambition.
“When former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was harassed and chased out of PDP with tail between his legs, he ran to the Lion of Bourdillon, he (Tinubu) gave him political support and a platform to contest for the office of the presidency in 2007,” Shettima said.

The vice president cited the episode as an example of what he described as Tinubu’s longstanding willingness to support the North politically.
He argued that the region should reciprocate that support by backing the president for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
Shettima’s remarks formed part of the APC’s broader effort to rally northern political leaders and voters behind Tinubu ahead of the next general election.
