Following are the key points for UAE residents today, as US-Iran conflict goes past Day 220+ (since it began around Feb. 28, 2026):
US President Donald Trump has publicly ruled out new major US attacks on Iran before the US midterm elections on November 3, citing “productive discussions,” while the US naval blockade of Iranian ports continues and regional tensions persist, especially around the Strait of Hormuz and Yemen/Houthi activity targeting Saudi Arabia.
Daily life and core services in the UAE continue with no indication of a general shutdown of businesses, schools, airports, or essentials, but residents face practical disruptions from regional spillover (flights, shipping/trade costs, energy volatility) and should stay alert to official updates.
Travel and flights
UAE airlines (Emirates, Etihad, flydubai, Air Arabia) have cancelled or disrupted multiple services to Saudi Arabia (especially Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Abha and others) due to Houthi attacks on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport and related security issues.
Some cancellations extend through October 14 or later (e.g., certain Etihad Abu Dhabi–Riyadh services noted into later dates; Riyadh airport has faced extended closure/disruption periods).
There is no blanket suspension of UAE flights overall.
Iranian airline services remain suspended in the UAE. Schedules can change quickly — check your airline app/website and airports (DXB, AUH, etc.) before traveling. Insurance and transit routes may also be affected.
International and other regional flights have seen delays/cancellations in some cases tied to the broader situation.
UK/Australian advice generally treats the UAE as open for travel with elevated caution due to regional unpredictability and terrorism/armed conflict risks. The US maintains a Level 3 “Reconsider Travel” advisory citing drone/missile threats and past Iranian statements targeting US-linked locations in the UAE.
Shipping, Hormuz, and economy
The Strait of Hormuz remains a central flashpoint. Iranian forces have conducted multiple attacks on vessels (UKMTO reported six on Oct. 11 alone as a high point)
Further strikes were reported around oil shuttle/transfer operations involving smaller vessels and larger tankers outside/near the strait, including claims linked to US-assisted routes.
Iran has threatened the shuttle system (also known as ship-to-ship transfers) used to move Gulf oil and has made statements about digital infrastructure/data centers in the area.
Fujairah (key oil storage/bunkering hub outside the strait) has seen reported drone/missile activity or interceptions affecting facilities in recent periods, with temporary operational impacts (fires controlled, some loading/bunkering disruptions or caution advised; no widespread confirmed mass casualties in the latest reports reviewed), as per Maritime Executive.
Impacts include higher freight costs, supply-chain pressure, potential effects on imports/consumer prices, and oil-price volatility.
The IMF has cut Middle East growth forecasts amid the war and Hormuz issues. UAE markets have shown mixed/modest moves.
Security and official guidance
UAE authorities emphasise reliance on official channels (not unverified social media).
The UAE has expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia after Houthi attacks, warned against efforts to sow Saudi-Emirati discord, and previously condemned Iranian targeting of commercial vessels/ADNOC-linked ships. Air defences have engaged incoming threats in past incidents.
Follow NCEMA, Ministry of Defence, Foreign Affairs, local police, and official UAE media for any alerts on shelter, movement, or emergencies.
Residents should maintain normal vigilance, avoid spreading rumours, and prepare basic contingency plans (e.g., essential supplies, communication).
Related regional notes: Houthi activity and Saudi readiness remain elevated; diplomatic friction continues (Iran-UK allegations); US forces continue blockade enforcement (turning back vessels, limited strikes on non-compliant ships).
Practical advice for residents
Flights/travel: Verify status repeatedly; expect possible further changes.
Daily routines: Business and public life continue; monitor fuel/energy prices and any import-related cost pressures.
Weather note (local): Separate from the conflict—fair to partly cloudy with possible afternoon convective rain/clouds in eastern/western areas, humidity/fog risk, highs around 38–39°C in major cities. khaleejtimes.com
