Milwaukee Brewers fans will take over about one in every four seats at Tropicana Field starting Monday, Nov. 2, while Tampa Bay Rays fans only picked up a sliver of seats at American Family Field.
Games 3, 4 and 5 will all take place in Tampa Bay's Tropicana Field. StubHub data says 21% of Game 3 tickets were purchased from Wisconsin zip codes. Game 4 has 28% of tickets purchased from Wisconsin, and Game 5 has about 25%.
In contrast, only 2-3% of Game 1 and 2 tickets at American Family Field were purchased from Florida zip codes.
If every Wisconsin purchaser is indeed a Brewers fan making the trek to Florida, more than 1/4 of Tropicana Field could be full of Brewers fans.
"Brewers fans appear to be traveling to Tampa Bay at roughly ten times the rate Rays fans are traveling to Milwaukee," a spokesperson for StubHub told the Journal Sentinel.
Tropicana Field fits about 42,000 spectators with the upper decks opened. American Family Field has 41,900 seats, but hit 42,350 fans for Game 1 attendance on Friday.
GoTickets has similar data, clocking about 12.5% of Tropicana Field tickets for Games 3 and 4 that were purchased from Wisconsin zip codes.
Stephen Spiewak, media relations staff member for GoTickets, said that Game 4 has slightly more Wisconsin purchases. He theorized that Milwaukee fans would rather crowd a potential World Series winner on Game 4 as well as easier scheduling for flights with an extra day to plan.
Ticket prices may be at play for fan migration
There is one glaring factor before Milwaukee Brewers fans declare their fandom stronger than Tampa Bay's: ticket prices.
Tickets at American Family Field have held above $2,000 per ticket since launching one week before game time. World Series Game 1 was the most expensive ticket in MLB history, reaching $2,236 just to get inside.
Tropicana Field tickets start at $740 on StubHub.
Journal Sentinel reporters have encountered many Brewers fans who said they elected to see a game in Tampa Bay versus Milwaukee because of the prices.
In one example, Brewers fan Zak Ehrmantraut purchased six total tickets for two games in Tampa Bay and a flight to the tune of $3,200 total after all expenses. That's one seated ticket in Milwaukee.
