Regarding the circumstances surrounding the blockbuster trade that sent Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers, he and former teammate Jayson Tatum seem to disagree on how it went down.
Brown was dealt in July, and Boston received veteran forward Paul George, a 2028 first-round pick, a 2031 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2030 second-round pick.
In a video posted on social media, Tatum says the way he found out about the trade mirrored how almost anyone did – especially since it was during the free agency period – online via ESPN insider Shams Charania
“We (were) in Vegas. I just got done playing pickup the first day. Shams walks over," Tatum said. "He hands me the towel and he’s like, 'Yo, put this over your face. Don’t react. They just traded him.' I’m like, ‘Oh (expletive)’ I’m like, ‘Where?’ He said, 'Philly.'
"‘You traded him down the street?’ So, I was just as much caught off guard as the rest of the world."
Brown found time to respond to Tatum's claim with a comment in a Bleacher Report Instagram video that posted the comments.
Brown took to his own Instagram account and simply posted a blue baseball cap emoji. In other words, "cap" is slang for Brown doesn't believe Tatum about not knowing the particulars, especially when the trade was going down.
Tatum did go to praise their new years together in a Celtics uniform.
"I will always say I knew every time I stepped on that court that when it was time to go to war, I looked to my left and my right and number 7 was over there, I knew that he was going to do whatever it took for us to try to win," Tatum said. "The way we pushed each other. I definitely made him better and he made me better. And we made our team better. We made this organization better. We won a championship. We are forever stitched in stone in NBA history. We held up that trophy. It won’t ever be forgotten."
Whatever the truth is, the two superstars can settle it on the court when the 76ers welcome the Celtics on Nov. 10 in Philadelphia.
