The woman approached the police saying that her baby had disappeared from the Kasganj bus stand while she was in the washroom. The child's father, who works as a labourer in Faridabad, had been informed that his son was missing.
The woman sold her child for Rs 1.5 lakh and faked a kidnapping tale to hide the crime.
A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district sold her one-and-a-half-month-old son for Rs 1.5 lakh and fabricated a kidnapping story to cover up the deal, police said. The child was rescued and five accused arrested within 24 hours of the case coming to light.
The woman approached the police saying that her baby had disappeared from the Kasganj bus stand while she was in the washroom. The child’s father, who works as a labourer in Faridabad, had been informed that his son was missing.
However, the police investigation and questioning exposed a deal to sell the infant, with the kidnapping claim being used to conceal the transaction.
According to police, Arun, a resident of Salempur, and his wife acted as middlemen and negotiated a deal worth Rs 2 lakh with Mahipal and his wife.
Of the amount, Rs 1.5 lakh was paid to the child’s mother.
In a joint operation, police and the Special Operations Group arrested five accused from a passenger waiting room at a train station within 24 hours.
The police recovered the infant safely and seized Rs 80,000 in cash from the accused.
All five accused have been produced before a court, and further legal proceedings are underway.
