Preparatory works for Damphu’s Local Area Plan-I (LAP-I) are set to begin, raising hopes for development in parts of the town where construction has been restricted since 2002.
Parts of LAP-I have remained undeveloped for more than two decades, with vacant plots and landowners waiting for a clear development plan.
Covering more than 140 acres, LAP-I stretches from the Druk Petroleum Corporation fuel depot to Damphu Central School along the highway.
So far, construction has been allowed only for landowners with more than 15 decimals of land. Once the plan is ready, all plot owners will be allowed to develop their land.
However, a temporary moratorium has been imposed from this month until June next year. It restricts new construction approvals, land transactions, boundary changes and development activities requiring municipal approval.
The district administration says the moratorium is necessary to ensure proper planning.
For plot owners who have been waiting since 2002, the planning process is expected to provide a way forward for development. The district administration expects the plan to guide future construction and improve overall development in Damphu town.
