The Kansas City Chiefs will look to continue their undefeated start to the season when they travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks on Sunday Night Football. The Week 7 matchup gives Kansas City an opportunity to prove it belongs among the NFL’s top contenders, while Seattle will try to protect its home field and deliver a statement victory against the defending Super Bowl champions.
The Chiefs enter the contest with a perfect 5-0 record after defeating the Los Angeles Chargers 22-6 last week. Kansas City has been impressive on both sides of the football, and another win would strengthen its position as one of the league’s most dangerous teams.
Seattle, meanwhile, sits at 3-3 and needs a strong performance to gain momentum. Playing in front of its home crowd at Lumen Field could provide a major advantage, particularly against a Kansas City team that will face one of its toughest road environments of the season.
Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.
Patrick Mahomes Leads the Chiefs
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes remains the centerpiece of Kansas City’s offense. Through five games, Mahomes has thrown for 1,309 yards and nine touchdowns, helping the Chiefs average 28 points per game.
Mahomes has demonstrated his ability to make plays both inside and outside the pocket, and his decision-making will be important against a Seattle defense that has shown an ability to create turnovers. The Seahawks have recorded seven interceptions this season, meaning Mahomes will need to avoid forcing throws into coverage.
Tight end Travis Kelce could be another important factor. Kelce has recorded 20 receptions for 299 yards and two touchdowns, giving Mahomes a reliable target in crucial situations. However, Kelce has been dealing with an ankle injury, and his availability and effectiveness will be worth monitoring.
Kansas City will also need other receivers to step up with Rashee Rice sidelined by hamstring and knee issues. Getting production from its supporting cast could determine how effective the offense is against Seattle.
Seattle Looks for a Statement Win
The Seahawks will rely on quarterback Sam Darnold to lead their offense against Kansas City’s defense. Darnold has thrown for 1,033 yards and seven touchdowns, but seven interceptions have created problems for Seattle.
Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been one of Seattle’s biggest offensive weapons, recording 717 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. His ability to create separation and produce explosive plays could challenge the Chiefs’ secondary.
Running back Kenneth Walker III will also be important as Seattle attempts to establish a balanced offensive attack. However, the Seahawks will need to protect the football and avoid giving Mahomes extra opportunities.
