MANCHESTER, Oct 22: Michael Carrick’s position as Manchester United manager has come under renewed scrutiny following the club’s 4-1 defeat by Como in the Champions League, which extended their winless run to seven matches.
According to a report by talkSPORT, United have begun considering potential replacements, with former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann emerging as a leading candidate.
The 39-year-old German coach was reportedly considered for the role before Carrick was appointed permanently in May. Nagelsmann is also said to have support among senior figures at Old Trafford.
Nagelsmann left his position as Germany manager following the World Cup, according to the report, and could now be an option if United decide to make another change in the dugout.
Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hürzeler is also understood to be among the possible candidates. Former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte and Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe have also been linked with the position.
United’s latest defeat has intensified the pressure on Carrick, with the team struggling to find consistency. However, the club has not officially announced any decision regarding the manager’s future.
The coming weeks could prove crucial for Carrick as United look to halt their poor run of results and restore confidence in their campaign.
With pressure mounting at Old Trafford, Carrick faces a defining period in his tenure as United seek to arrest their alarming slide and prevent their season from slipping further off course.
The seven-match winless run has raised questions not only about the team’s results but also about its tactical direction, consistency and ability to compete at the highest level. (Agencies)
