(ANSA) - ROME, 12 OTT - Italy's Kimi Antonelli played it cool after his third-place finish at Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix put him on the brink of becoming Formula One's youngest-ever world champion and the first Italian to take the title since Alberto Ascari in 1953.
The 20-year-old stretched his lead over his Mercedes team-mate George Russell to 102 points and, with six rounds remaining and 150 points still up for grabs, he will clinch the title at the next race, the United States Grand Prix in Austin, if he increases the advantage to 125 points or more.
When told he could become the world champion in Texas, he replied: "Can I? Really? Let's not worry about that! Let's try to do the best weekends possible and finish the job." (ANSA).
