The Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board (KSPVIB) has temporarily shut nine private schools for failing to comply with registration revalidation and recertification requirements.
The board’s Executive Secretary, Comrade Baba Abubakar Umar, disclosed this during a media parley in Kano, saying the affected schools would remain closed for seven days from October 12, 2026.
The schools are Zayyad Academy, Success International Schools, Sunshine International School, Perfect Schools, Al-Fa’iq International College, Mainasara International School, Shubla Academy, Darul Mu’uminat Comprehensive School and Hanan International School.
Umar said the board had identified 111 schools allegedly bypassing regulatory procedures, warning that any institution that reopened without authorisation would face legal action.

He said the exercise was aimed at strengthening regulation and ensuring compliance with educational standards.
The executive secretary also warned school proprietors against increasing fees without approval, forcing parents to buy uniforms and books exclusively from schools, and expelling pupils without informing their parents.
He urged private schools to renew their operating licences for the 2026/2027 academic session, noting that previous certificates expired on July 31, 2026.
