Netflix will exclusively stream Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions of every new series launched by Bengali streaming platform Hoichoi over the next two years under a partnership announced in Mumbai on 22 October.
The new titles will premiere on Netflix in the three languages alongside their Bengali debuts on Hoichoi. The first release, 'The Cursed Temple of Kauriburi', is a folklore-based horror series starring Jeetu Kamal, Solanki Roy and Paoli Dam, scheduled to premiere on 6 November.
Netflix will also add 14 existing Hoichoi series to its catalogue, including 'Madam Inspector', 'Sampurna', 'Lajja', 'Eken Sirji', 'Anjaan Saaye', 'The Curse of Parnashavari', 'Bloodlines', 'The Adventures of Daadi & Jagga', 'Raat Abhi Baaki Hain', 'Achinta: Trial By Law', 'Shaadi Ka Siyappa', 'Queens', 'Parineeta: A Love Story' and 'Mahanagar'. The collection spans crime thrillers, detective mysteries, horror, social dramas and romance.
The companies will also develop original series adapted from selected Hoichoi stories, with Hoichoi Studios handling production. Further details have yet to be announced.
The partnership is part of Netflix's wider effort to expand its catalogue through licensed content from external producers. It follows licensing deals with French broadcaster TF1 and Brazilian broadcaster Globo.
Launched in 2017 under Indian entertainment company SVF, Hoichoi offers more than 2,000 hours of programming, including over 100 original productions. The platform says it reaches more than 250 million Bengalis worldwide and established Hoichoi Studios for film production in 2023.
