Blantyre City Mayor Isaac Jomo Osaman has vowed not to stay silent as a leader while people break the law.
Speaking to a local media outlet on Saturday, Osman stressed that Blantyre can only move forward if the law is followed in everything.
He acknowledged that people have rights, but argued that the way some use them is damaging the country.
“I, Jomo, will not sit down and watch someone break the law while I, as a leader, just keep quiet,” he declared.
The mayor also announced plans to release a list of individuals he accuses of wrongdoing in Malawi, including drug use.
He insisted that everything he does is within the law and aimed at helping Malawians abandon bad practices and start doing the right thing.
The Mayor said that many people cook up stories to ruin his reputation because they know he is delivering the best for Malawians.
“That’s why people will come and cook up stories about me, because they know Jomo is here to stay. I will not allow that,” he said.
He blamed some of the country’s problems on certain disruptive individuals, alleging that the forex shortage, drugs and human trafficking are being driven by them.
On the fuel crisis, he claimed that some individuals buy fuel in big drums at filling stations and resell it on the black market.
