Bethany Joy Lenz's cult scandal
Because of the lack of emotional closeness in their marriage, Lenz was reportedly forced to adhere to a strict schedule to meet her marital obligations.
She remembered being told that consistent involvement would eventually lead to enjoyment, but this routine ultimately caused her great distress and PTSD. Bethany shared on the Oct. 16 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast.
"I had an intense desire for intimacy," "It's kind of amazing that I didn't engage in any physical relations until I was married. It felt like this promise I had been given as a good evangelical was a big crock."
"I thought if I save myself for marriage, then the promise is amazing closeness and a deep connection, but nothing lives up to that. And then we become physically close, and it's like, 'Why do I feel so sad? I don't feel closer to you. I feel more distant from you.' And I don't think that had anything to do with waiting for marriage. It was just that I married the wrong person."
