It’s been 11 years since Glee aired its final episode, and now, Gleeks have something new to look forward to. After showrunner Ryan Murphy teased that he finished writing a Glee reboot script on September 23, Deadline reported that Disney+ and Hulu officially picked up a revival of the fan-favorite show.
The deliciously chaotic series ran for six years and followed a Midwestern high school show choir through their highs and lows, from teen pregnancies to landing dream roles on Broadway. Oh, and obviously, most of the stories were told through song, á la PG-13 High School Musical. The New Directions covered hits from all decades and even had artist-dedicated episodes for Madonna, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and more.
Glee became a cultural phenomenon, drawing an average of 10 million viewers each week and landing more than 207 of its Glee Cast Version covers on the Billboard Hot 100. The show also won six Emmys and four Golden Globes during its run, making stars like Lea Michele and Darren Criss household names.
That being said…why wouldn’t Ryan Murphy want to recreate that magic? Here’s what we know about the Glee reboot.

What has Ryan Murphy said about the Glee reboot?
During the American Horror Story season 13 premiere, Ryan teased that he’d apparently written an entire script for the Glee reboot.
“Well, funny you ask, ’cause I just finished the script an hour ago,” Murphy told Entertainment Tonight. “So, we have a script. Brad [Falchuk], Ian [Brennan], and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something. I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”
Who is coming back for the Glee reboot?
So, Ryan seemingly confirmed that 10 (!!) of the original cast members are “enthusiastic” about reprising their roles…but who’s actually coming back? While we don’t know for sure, we can do some quick math and guesstimate.
Unfortunately, some core cast members tragically passed since their time on the show, including Cory Monteith, Mark Salling, and Naya Rivera. That leaves us with:
- Lea Michele (Rachel Berry)
- Matthew Morrison (Will Schuester)
- Jane Lynch (Sue Sylvester)
- Amber Riley (Mercedes Jones)
- Chris Colfer (Kurt Hummel)
- Dianna Agron (Quinn Fabray)
- Heather Morris (Brittany Pierce)
- Kevin McHale (Artie Abrams)
- Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina Cohen-Chang)
- Darren Criss (Blaine Anderson)
- Harry Shum Jr. (Mike Chang)
- Chord Overstreet (Sam Evans)
- Alex Newell (Unique Adams)
- Becca Tobin (Kitty Wilde)
- Melissa Benoist (Marley Rose)
- Jonathan Groff (Jesse St. James)
