By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Prime Minister John Briceño says his decision to seek a third term came at the request of his own Cabinet colleagues.
Speaking to reporters, Briceño reconfirmed that he will lead the People’s United Party into the 2030 general election.
He explained that members of his Cabinet had been asking him to run again. At first, he said, he told them privately that he was considering it and giving it serious thought.
“Finally they were saying, listen, I think it is important for you to make that announcement so that everyone can know you are going to lead us into 2030 elections, and so that is what I did,” Briceño said.
The Prime Minister also insisted that his Cabinet, his Government and his party are united.
“There is no such thing as any kind of divisions,” he said.
His comments come as the country heads into the municipal election season.
