Canadian Miner Signs Guyana Gold Option Deal

GUYANA · GOLD

Lighthouse Gold, a small Canadian exploration company, has signed a definitive agreement for the right to buy a gold property in northwest Guyana, it said on Tuesday 20 October 2026. The deal is an option, not an outright purchase, and it adds to a wave of foreign money chasing the country’s gold.

Guyana is better known to American readers for its offshore oil, but gold is now drawing serious dealmaking from Canadian investors. The Lighthouse option is small, at roughly US$1.05 million in cash, yet it shows how junior explorers are staking positions around the Oko gold district.

Lighthouse Takes an Option on Oko Land

Lighthouse Gold, which is listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange, signed a property option purchase agreement for the Mariwa/Sardine Hill property. It gives the company the exclusive right to acquire 100% of the property over four years.

The property covers more than 13 square kilometres in Mining District No. 4 of Guyana’s Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region. It follows a binding letter of intent that Lighthouse announced on Monday 15 June 2026.

The seller is a private party that the company has not named. It keeps a 1.0% net smelter return royalty, which is a small share of future revenue from any gold sold, and Lighthouse can buy that royalty back for US$4 million.

How the Payments Work

The terms include a US$100,000 non-refundable deposit and a further US$150,000 payment at the start. After that, Lighthouse owes US$200,000 a year for four years, or US$800,000 in total.

Cash payments therefore add up to about US$1.05 million. The seller also receives 35 million Lighthouse shares, so the final value of the package depends on the share price.

Lexston Chases a Second Property

Lexston Mining, another Canadian-listed explorer, signed a letter of intent in July 2026 to buy 15 mining claims in northwest Guyana from a local owner, Joseph Jardine. The claims lie in Mining District Five of Region One and cover about 16,000 acres, or roughly 65 square kilometres.

The proposed price is US$1.1 million in staged cash payments over five years. Jardine would keep a 2% royalty and the alluvial rights, which cover gold found loose in river sediment.

Bigger Money Is Already in Guyana

Larger deals show where the sector is heading. G Mining, a gold producer, agreed in April 2026 to buy G2 Goldfields, a Guyana-focused explorer, for about US$2.2 billion.

Shareholders approved that deal in June, and a court issued its final order in late June. In September, Mako Mining signed a mineral agreement for its Eagle Mountain gold project with the Guyanese government, with Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat attending.

What It Means for US Investors

For US investors, this is a small-cap story rather than a market mover, since Lighthouse and Lexston are junior explorers listed in Canada. Deals of this size signal appetite for Guyanese gold, but they do not show that any property holds mineable ore.

Readers who follow Guyana for its oil should note that gold gives the country a second resource story. Option agreements can end if payments stop, so the headline figure is a maximum rather than a promise.

What Is Not Known

The seller of the Lighthouse property has not been named, and the company has not said when the exchange will formally accept it. The worth of the 35 million shares depends on a share price that can move sharply.

Guyanese authorities have not commented on either deal in the sources we reviewed. It is also unclear whether Lexston has signed its final agreement, or how much gold either property holds.
