“I also understand the criticism from our students,” Macron continues, commenting on criticism of the French school system.
He also says that police have acted professionally during the protests, despite protesters accusing them of using excessive force.
“I have asked them to provide information so that this does not happen again,” Macron said, referring to Saturday’s extensive and partly violent protests.
But the president also points out that full transparency about the actions of the French police is necessary.
At the same time, he notes that “nothing excuses violence.”
