OCI Holdings (010060) has planted 315 specimens of 15 rare and endemic native plant species, including Korean fir, in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, as part of a biodiversity conservation effort.
The company said on the 19th that about 70 employees and their family members took part in the planting activity on the 17th near the OCI (456040) Pocheon Training Center in Gyeonggi Province.
The event was part of the "Arboretum Alliance," a public-private cooperation project led by the Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute under the Korea Forest Service. The alliance is a cooperative framework that connects the expertise and resources of public agencies, private associations and companies to improve growing conditions at private botanical gardens and arboretums.
Employees and family members from four companies — OCI Holdings, OCI, OCI Dream and Bukwang Pharmaceutical — joined the event. Participants received training on forest biodiversity and ex-situ conservation from experts at the Korea Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta before planting on a site of about 660 square meters.
The 15 species planted include Korean fir, a Korean endemic species listed as endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, as well as white forsythia, Korean winter hazel, Ulleungdo spirea and fan iris. By plant type, the planting consisted of 10 evergreen trees, three deciduous trees, 54 deciduous shrubs and 250 herbaceous plants, forming a multilayered structure designed with expert guidance to improve ecological completeness.
OCI Holdings plans to monitor the growth, flowering and fruiting of the plants together with the Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute and the Korea Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta. Seeds that meet deposit requirements will be placed in national seed conservation facilities such as the Seed Vault.
"We will continue to pursue biodiversity conservation activities and advance our ESG management," said Cha Jung-hwan, executive director of OCI Holdings' corporate communications division.
