Johannesburg - One suspect involved in the killing of four people in Katlehong is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Thursday as police investigate the deadly attack on a memorial procession.
Gunmen opened fire on a crowd in Sophangisa Street on Tuesday, killing four people, including members of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL), and injuring others.
The shooting occurred as mourners and community members walked from Mogobeng Primary School to the home of a dead league member following a memorial service.
The suspect handed himself over to the police and remains in custody.
The case docket, which includes murder and attempted murder charges, has been transferred to the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team for further investigation.
Police have not disclosed a motive for the attack, leaving investigators to establish what led to the shooting and the circumstances surrounding the killings.
The ANCYL expressed deep sadness over the deaths and injuries.
