Strive and Strategy expand Bitcoin holdings
Strive bought 1,223 BTC, while Strategy added 267 BTC. Both companies disclosed their purchases on October 19.
Strive CEO Matt Cole put the company’s average purchase price at $81,734 per Bitcoin, bringing the acquisition cost to approximately $100 million. The purchase increased its total holdings to 36,818 BTC.
Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, paid $22.1 million for its coins between October 12 and October 18, at an average price of $82,900 each, according to its Securities and Exchange Commission filing. Its holdings reached 848,517 BTC, acquired for a total of $64 billion at an average cost of $75,446 per coin.
The filing shows Strategy sold 140,872 MSTR shares for approximately $22 million to fund most of the acquisition. Its US dollar cash reserve covered the remaining $0.1 million.
Strategy repurchases preferred shares
Strategy also spent $193.1 million repurchasing approximately 1.94 million STRC preferred shares during the same period. It funded those repurchases from its US dollar cash reserve.
The company expanded its digital credit securities repurchase authorization to $3 billion, leaving approximately $1.16 billion available. Separately, it used $45.5 million from its dollar reserve to pay preferred-stock dividends.
Bitcoin market recovery follows inflation-driven selloff
On October 19, declining oil prices and falling US Treasury yields relieved pressure on risk assets, helping the Bitcoin market climb back above $82,000.
This recovery came right after a brief dip under $80,000 on October 15, triggered by hotter-than-expected US inflation figures that fueled worries over additional Federal Reserve rate hikes.
Even as prices weakened, corporations kept buying Bitcoin, though US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw roughly $228 million in net outflows during the prior week. Those withdrawals raised questions about the strength of the rebound.
The $80,000 level remains critical support. Should the Bitcoin market hold gains above the $84,000–$85,000 range, the bullish case would gain further support heading into the next Federal Reserve meeting.
The Federal Reserve meeting is scheduled for October 27–28.
