It was an easy choice for the best player on the field for Penn State this past Saturday against Michigan.
Wide receiver Chase Sowell accounted for nearly half of the team’s offense in a 21-18 loss in the Big House.
Sowell caught 11 passes for 151 yards and a score against Michigan’s vaunted defensive backs and their man-to-man coverage.
If Koby Howard returns looking like he did before his injury, Penn State will have its best 1-2 combo at wide out in a long time and that should give some hope to a struggling offense.
But enough about looking forward, going back to Saturday, Sowell’s toughness also stood out. He was game time decision and has been battling an injury. After a first half catch, he had his leg rolled up on and left the field for a short time. The senior looked plenty healthy when he came back, making a series of contested catches and giving Rocco Becht a consistent target.
