The 2026 B.C. provincial election is just days away on Saturday, Oct. 24, but some advance voters who decided to fill out their ballots early got a nostalgic treat at the polling station.
D’Arcy Hamilton and Dan Rotman are the creators of CRT Cruiser, a public art project that combines the former’s filmmaking skills, the latter’s passion for cycling, and their joint mindset for sustainability.
The CRT Cruiser is a cargo bike carrying a 27-inch tube TV, an original NES with the Zapper light gun, and a ’90s stereo, all running off a battery.
The longtime friends recently brought the setup to a Mount Pleasant advance polling station

“On Sunday’s ride, Dan said, ‘You know what would have been so fun? Going to a polling place,'” explained Hamilton to Daily Hive Urbanized. “A few hours later, we were riding along Main Street and came right across an advance voting place, at 10th and Main in Vancouver.
“We hadn’t voted yet either, so we went in and voted, then parked outside and offered people a quick game on their way out.”
Several people played the classic video game Duck Hunt on the Nintendo Entertainment System after casting their vote in the B.C. election, and lots more stopped to take photos and watch the free-to-play CRT Cruiser.

“There were lots of double-takes on the way in,” shared Hamilton. “A few people were in a hurry, but even they said they loved seeing it on a cargo bike. Afterwards we heard ‘This is so amazing’ and ‘Total trip back.'”
“One person told us that before the internet they could never figure out how the TV knew where they were pointing. One older gentleman told us he didn’t see a TV until he was a teenager.”
Hamilton and Rotman constructed most of the CRT Cruiser with gear rescued out of Vancouver alleys, and the TV was found at the City Centre Motor Hotel on Main Street, with a “free TV, still working” sticker on it.

“We started riding it around in the summer of 2025, and have brought it to the Bike Rave, World Cup crowds downtown, Rogers Arena, and backyard parties,” added Hamilton. “People usually do a double-take, then the phones come out, and then someone says, ‘That is my childhood.’
“We’ve had a firefighter play, grandmas who went duck for duck with each other for half an hour, and kids who’d never seen a TV like this before. A lot of people unexpectedly get transported back to their childhood, and seeing their reactions is what makes it all worth it.”
Elections BC
Nearly 338,000 British Columbians cast their ballots during the first two days of advance voting in the 2026 provincial general election.
According to Elections BC’s preliminary figures, 137,352 people voted at advance voting locations on Friday, Oct. 16, followed by another 200,609 on Saturday, Oct. 17, bringing the combined total to 337,961 across the entire province.
The provincial election is where British Columbians elect one MLA in each of the province’s 93 ridings, helping determine which party forms government and who becomes premier.
After six advance voting days, the main voting day for the B.C. election — the final opportunity to participate — is this Saturday, Oct. 24, when polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
