(CNS): Following the release of the Q3 2026 licensing statistics by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority, the Insurance Managers Association of Cayman (IMAC) has reported continued growth in Cayman’s international insurance sector, reinforcing its position as a leading domicile for the global insurance industry.
“The steady increase in new licensees, alongside significant growth in premiums written and total assets, reflects the continued confidence that international businesses place in our jurisdiction,” IMAC Chair James Trundle said in a release from the association.
“Cayman’s established regulatory framework, depth of industry expertise and strong professional services infrastructure remain key factors in its appeal as one of the world’s leading insurance domiciles. With a healthy pipeline of applications and continued interest from international markets, we are optimistic about the industry’s outlook for the remainder of 2026.”
Building on the 20 new international insurer licences approved during the first half of the year, CIMA issued eight more between July and September 2026: one Class B(i) and seven Class B(iii) licences, including three new Portfolio Insurance Companies (PICs). These additions bring the total number of new international insurer licences issued so far this year to 28.
Another eleven applications are currently under review, and a number have been approved in principle, including one new insurance manager, according to CIMA.
With the addition of the latest licensees, Cayman is now home to 720 Class B, C and D insurance companies, representing approximately US$62 billion in premiums written, and US$203 billion in total assets. Since the beginning of 2026, premiums written have increased by US$11 billion, while total assets have grown by US$27 billion.
IMAC said anyone interested in learning more about Cayman’s captive insurance industry can attend the Cayman Captive Forum, the largest captive forum in the world, at the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman in December.
