The Jigawa State Government says it has disbursed more than ₦6.2 billion in retirement and death benefits to 2,472 beneficiaries between January and October 2026.
The Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme Board, Dr Binyaminu Shittu Aminu, disclosed this on Monday during a briefing at the Pension House in Dutse.
Aminu said the payments covered retirement benefits for former workers of the state civil service, local government councils and Local Education Authorities, as well as death benefits for families of deceased civil servants and outstanding pension balances for families of deceased pensioners.
He said ₦4.94 billion was paid to 2,002 retirees as retirement benefits, while ₦1.12 billion went to 370 families of deceased civil servants.
Another ₦132.95 million was disbursed to 100 families of deceased pensioners as outstanding death pension balances.
The executive secretary said the payments covered eligible beneficiaries who retired in January, February, May, July and October.
Aminu also announced a payment of about ₦1.21 billion for 484 beneficiaries in October, covering retirement benefits, death benefits and outstanding death pension balances.
He reaffirmed the board’s commitment to prompt payment of entitlements, including monthly pensions on the first day of every month.
The executive secretary commended Governor Umar Namadi for supporting the scheme and efforts to improve the welfare of serving and retired civil servants.

The Jigawa State Head of Service, Muhammad K. Dagaceri, said the state was up to date in paying retirement entitlements, including benefits due to workers who died while in active service.
Dagaceri disclosed that the Namadi administration had injected more than ₦15 billion into the pension scheme between May 2023 and October 2026.
He said the funding had helped sustain the scheme and strengthened confidence among civil servants approaching retirement.
He added that the state government and pension board would continue to prioritise workers’ welfare and the well-being of retirees.
The Jigawa State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Sunusi Alhassan Maigatari, represented by his deputy, Hazakilu Kore, described the state’s pension arrangement as one of the best in the country.
He said more than 20 states had visited Jigawa to study its pension model and commended the government for paying workers’ entitlements.
“I’m grateful to the government for paying workers their benefits. It’s a big relief for us,” he said.
The labour leader urged the government to sustain its support for the scheme to ensure retirees receive their entitlements promptly.
The state government says continued funding of the contributory pension scheme is intended to protect workers’ benefits and provide greater financial security after retirement.
