Star Meat Delivery Inc., based in Lucama, North Carolina, is recalling approximately 167,639 pounds of raw pork, beef, and goat products that were produced without federal inspection and carry a false USDA mark of inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Tuesday.
Any product bearing the false establishment number "EST. 1363" should be considered misbranded and unsafe to eat, according to FSIS. The agency said that number does not correspond to any federally granted inspection establishment.
The recalled items were produced on various dates before September 22, 2026, vacuum-sealed, and packed into cardboard boxes for shipment. They were distributed in bulk under the A&D Foods label to a Georgia-based distributor of the same name, which sent them to retail and restaurant locations across the country. Shoppers may not see the A&D Foods brand name on packages they purchased, because grocery stores often affix their own labels showing price and safe-handling directions over the original packaging.
The recall covers 23 product types, including goat cuts, ribeye slices, beef oxtail, beef short ribs, beef feet, shanks, menudo mix, pork chorizo, pork chops, pork feet, pork ribs, ground pork, and several varieties of pork Boston cuts, FSIS said.
FSIS classified the recall as Class I, the most serious designation it issues, reserved for situations in which eating the product could reasonably be expected to result in severe health harm or death, according to Newsweek.
FSIS said the problem was discovered during routine surveillance activities. The agency warned that meat that bypasses the federal inspection process can harbor undeclared allergens, dangerous pathogens, or other substances that pose risks to consumers.
There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury linked to the products, FSIS said.
A spokesperson for A&D Foods said Star Meat Delivery sources, processes, and packages the products before shipping them to A&D Foods, which distributes them. In a statement, the company said it notified its customers after USDA alerted it to the recall and is helping them identify and remove recalled products.
FSIS said it has reason to believe that some of the affected products have not yet been discarded and could still be stored in homes, food-service kitchens, or retail back rooms. Anyone who bought these products should dispose of them immediately or bring them back to the store where they were purchased rather than consuming them. Food-service operators and retailers should pull the products from their shelves and kitchens and stop offering them to customers.
