IMPHAL, Oct 14 : The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has constituted a four-member Enquiry Committee to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the demise of Thokchom ongbi Binaroi (25), following childbirth at the Institute.
In a statement, RIMS expressed profound sorrow over the death of the young mother and extended its condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time.
A post-mortem examination was scheduled to be conducted today as part of the process to establish the cause of death, it said.
It said that the Enquiry Committee is expected to submit its report within three working days, following which appropriate action will be taken based on its findings and in accordance with the applicable rules and procedures.
The Institute reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring an objective examination of the incident and giving due consideration to all concerns arising from the case.
Meanwhile, RIMS strongly condemned the damage to public property within its premises.
While acknowledging the grief and anguish of the bereaved family, the Institute stated that vandalism and destruction of public property are unacceptable and could not be justified.
It cautioned that such incidents could disrupt essential healthcare services and adversely affect patients who depend on the Institute for timely medical attention.
RIMS also stated that despite the best efforts of doctors and healthcare personnel, unforeseen complications during childbirth could sometimes lead to tragic outcomes.
It stressed that the circumstances surrounding the incident should be assessed based on the findings of the enquiry and post-mortem examination rather than speculation.
The Institute appealed to all concerned to exercise restraint and allow the established procedures to take their course.
