The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed reports that his party plans to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or for any other party.
Kwankwaso made the clarification on Sunday in a statement posted on his verified Facebook page, where he accused the ADC Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) of attacking the NDC leadership.
According to him, the ADC campaign team had abandoned issue-based campaigning to launch “unnecessary attacks” on himself, the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the party, including claims that the NDC was working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He described suggestions that the NDC would withdraw at the last minute to support the ADC as unfounded and misleading.
“Let me state clearly and unequivocally: we will not withdraw our candidature for the ADC or any other party. We remain confident in our capacity, competence, and readiness to lead Nigeria,” Kwankwaso said.
He warned that similar rumours could be circulated on the eve of the election to confuse NDC supporters, insisting that the party is fully in the race.
“The OK ticket is neither working for nor acting on behalf of the APC or any of its candidates. There is neither a reason nor any possibility of withdrawing in favour of the ADC candidate,” he added.
He urged the ADC-PCC to focus on addressing allegations reportedly made against its candidate by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, rather than targeting the NDC.
Kwankwaso further argued that neither the APC-led government nor the ADC offered the credible alternative Nigeria needs.
He said the NDC’s presidential ticket, is committed to national unity and to tackling pressing challenges in security, education, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare and the economy.
He maintained that the ticket has the capacity, credibility and nationwide support to deliver on its agenda and heal national divisions.
“I therefore urge all our supporters and well-meaning Nigerians to continue working toward the victory of our great party,” he declared.
“Nigeria will be OK,” he added.
