Clear autumn weather will continue through Saturday before heavy rain hits South Korea on Sunday, with up to 80 millimeters expected in parts of the country, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration on Friday.
Saturday temperatures will range from 7 to 16 degrees Celsius in the morning and 21 to 27 degrees during the day, above the seasonal averages. Inland areas could see temperature swings of around 15 degrees.
Rain will begin early Sunday in parts of the Seoul metropolitan area before spreading nationwide by afternoon. The capital region, the five West Sea islands and the Chungcheong provinces could receive 30 to 80 millimeters, while parts of Gangwon and North Jeolla provinces could see up to 70 and 60 millimeters, respectively.
Downpours of 20 to 30 millimeters per hour are possible as moisture-laden winds and cold air create unstable atmospheric conditions. Residents are advised to check drainage systems, as fallen leaves could clog drains and cause localized flooding.
Strong winds are also forecast nationwide from Saturday, with gusts exceeding 70 kilometers per hour in some coastal areas and 90 kph in mountainous regions on Sunday. Rough seas are expected across most coastal waters.
Temperatures will start to fall gradually early next week as colder air moves in from the north.
