TRUMP DECLARES IMMEDIATE ENERGY CEASEFIRE AS ZELENSKY ADMITS HE WAS LEFT IN THE DARK
President Trump just cut through the noise. On Sunday he posted on Truth Social: “Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!”
The move comes days after Trump locked in a diesel supply deal with Moscow to ease soaring fuel costs hammering American drivers, farmers, and truckers. Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries have tightened global diesel supplies. Trump has made clear those attacks are making life more expensive for U.S. consumers while the war drags on into its fifth year.
Zelensky’s response was telling. He told Axios the announcement was “news for me.” He added: “But if Russians agree to an energy ceasefire Ukraine will agree. If President Trump negotiated it with Putin — please tell us when the ceasefire begins — we are ready and we will accept
Moscow has offered no confirmation. The pattern is familiar. In September Trump announced a similar halt on energy infrastructure strikes. Both sides kept hitting targets within days. Zelensky has repeatedly said Ukraine will stop only if Russia stops first, yet the strikes continued and fuel prices stayed high.
Trump spent Saturday demanding Ukraine get a leader who can actually make a deal. He has argued for months that endless escalation does not serve American interests when energy costs are spiking ahead of the midterms. The diesel agreement he struck Friday with Putin was meant to put more supply on the market immediately. An energy ceasefire would protect that progress by keeping refineries and power plants off the target list.
Whether either side honors the halt remains the open question. Past announcements collapsed fast. Trump’s message is blunt: both sides agreed, so do not break it. American workers and families are the ones paying the price when the war’s energy front stays hot.
