Kolkata Police served a fresh notice at Abhishek Banerjee's residence in the Camac Street billboard case. The move deepens the probe into the August disturbance and has drawn political criticism over its timing.

Abhishek Banerjee has already been questioned in one of the cases after appearing at the police station and speaking to investigators for several hours.

Kolkata Police on Sunday visited the residence of AITC national general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee and served a notice summoning him for another round of questioning in connection with the Camac Street party office billboard case, an officer said.
This was the police's second visit to Banerjee's Kalighat residence in a week for the same purpose. The notice was served by a team from Shakespeare Sarani police station in connection with a complaint lodged by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
According to the officer, the KMC alleged that police personnel and civic workers were harassed and assaulted while trying to remove TMC signage from a building on Camac Street that houses a party office last month. On Sunday, police first found that no one was ready to accept the notice, but after some time it was handed over to Banerjee's staff at the residence.
During the previous visit on October 7, Banerjee was not at home and no one was available to receive the notice, the officer said.
The case relates to a disturbance on August 27 over the removal of a billboard from a building housing Banerjee's office on Camac Street in central Kolkata. Police and Kolkata Municipal Corporation officials had faced protests from Banerjee's supporters during the removal of the billboard bearing the TMC name and its twin-flower symbol. Three FIRs were registered at Shakespeare Sarani police station in connection with the incident.
Banerjee has already been questioned in one of the cases after appearing at the police station and speaking to investigators for several hours. Police now want to question him again in the same case. The fire department had separately served a notice in connection with the matter.
Condemning the police action, Mamata AITC spokesperson and MLA Kunal Ghosh said, "The BJP (government) has stooped so low that a notice has been served even after Mahalaya when the Durga Puja is just days away." The latest notice marks another step in the investigation into the August 27 Camac Street disturbance.
