The Madras High Court on Tuesday (October 13, 2026) restrained the unauthorised exhibition of Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2 and Bail, starring Shivarajkumar, on websites and other digital platforms, in violation of the copyrights held by the film producers, Sun TV Network Limited of Chennai and KVN Productions LLP of Bengaluru.
Justice P.B. Balaji granted the interim injunction pursuant to individual suits filed by the two production firms to protect their copyrights over their respective movies. The judge also accepted a request made by Sun TV Network’s counsel Rahul Balaji to issue the copy of the order at the earliest, since Jailer 2 was scheduled for release on Thursday (October 15, 2026).
The counsel said, those who indulge in piracy end up exhibiting movies without authorisation on digital platforms within 30 minutes of their worldwide release and hence, he required the order copy as soon as possible so that it could be communicated to all the telecommunication companies, including BSNL, Airtel, Hathway, Tata Communications, Vodafone, Reliance Communications, and others.
He said, the order had to be communicated to cable television operators and others, especially since the plaintiff had filed a John Doe suit (a legal action initiated against unknown individuals and entities). The judge directed the Registry to issue a web copy of the interim injunction order by the end of the day.
Jailer 2 is a much-awaited multilingual sequel to the blockbuster movie Jailer, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, which was released in 2023. While Mr. Rajinikanth plays the role of a retired police officer whose peaceful life is disrupted by a gang of criminals, the sequel also stars top actors, including Vijay Sethupathi, S.J. Suryah, Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Yogi Babu, and Hrithik Roshan.
Bail, a Kannada movie directed by Pavan Wadeyar, was released in theatres on October 2, 2026. However, KVN Productions LLP filed the present copyright infringement suit only on October 8, 2026. The suit was listed for admission on Tuesday (October 13, 2026), along with the applications seeking interim injunctions.
