RAWALPINDI – Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi Bench declared Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s (PMDC) practice of taking question papers back from students after the examination illegal, directing authorities to upload the papers to the relevant app immediately.
Justice Ahsan Raza Kazmi announced the verdict while allowing petitions filed by students Rehan Shahid and Anabia Tahir, who challenged the practice of collecting question papers from candidates after they had completed their examinations.
The court ordered PMDC administration to make the question papers available on the app without delay, providing significant relief to students seeking access to the papers after the test.
Barrister Imran Afrasiab who represented the petitioners argued that candidates have a constitutional and legal right to retain their question papers. He contended that the PMDC’s practice was not only illegal and unconstitutional but also unethical.
Assistant Attorney General Malik Zaheer Arshad represented the federal government and presented its position before the court. Justice Kazmi ordered that the verdict be implemented the same day. The court made it clear that the PMDC could not hand question papers to candidates and subsequently take them back.
The ruling is major development in MDCAT examination dispute, placing the issue of candidates’ access to their question papers under judicial scrutiny and directing the relevant authorities to act immediately.
