MUNIR ZULU WARNS AGAINST MISINFORMATION, SAYS ZAMBIA RISKS “GROW ZAMBIAN PRISON AGENDA”
Former Lumezi Member of Parliament Munir Zulu has warned that the growing culture of misinformation, rumour-mongering and political hostility could undermine Zambia’s development agenda and discourage investment.
Mr Zulu says society has become too comfortable spreading and accepting unverified information, particularly rumours about deaths, illnesses and abductions.
He has also criticised the tendency to declare people guilty before they are tried in court and claims by some individuals to know the outcome of judicial proceedings before judgments are delivered.
Mr Zulu says the consequences of these negative tendencies affect everyone, including those in positions of power, as investors may hold back investments amid uncertainty
He has questioned why Zambians cannot embrace dialogue to resolve their differences, suggesting that some individuals may be benefiting from the prevailing tensions.
Mr Zulu warns that if the State continues to act on emotions while opposition players promote negative narratives, the country risks abandoning the Grow Zambia Agenda in favour of what he calls the “Grow Zambian Prison Agenda.”
