One NFL scout revealed significant flaws that has been costly for Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns halfway through the 2026 season.
Manning is going through the fourth season of his collegiate career with the Longhorns. This marks his second year as a full-time starter, trying to get Texas to the College Football Playoff.
However, Texas has gone through stunning struggles. They suffered back-to-back collapses against Oklahoma and Florida, free falling from No. 1 in the AP Top 25 down to No. 19.

Football insider Pete Nakos wrote about Manning’s struggles in a latest in-depth article. He sourced quotes from one NFL scout, listing traits that been detrimental to the Longhorns this season.
“Interior of the offensive line hasn’t been great, but I think he’s the biggest problem,” the scout said. “He doesn’t have instincts for the position, which is wild considering he’s a Manning, and he doesn’t have a great arm either.”
“He doesn’t recognize or feel pressure great until it’s already on him, and [he’s struggled] knowing when to tuck it and run,” the scout added. “But I agree, his legs are one of his better attributes. Like, that’s why he played better down the stretch last year.”
What lies ahead for Arch Manning, Texas
Arch Manning and Texas have issues to figure out. If they want to make the CFP, they must win out the rest of the regular season.
Six games in, Manning has delivered mixed results. He has thrown for 1,295 yards and 11 touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing 49 times for 102 yards.
Texas has a 4-2 record this season, going 1-2 in its SEC contests so far. They sit at 12th place in the conference standings, being above the Texas A&M Aggies and the South Carolina Gamecocks while trailing the Oklahoma Sooners and the Auburn Tigers.
The No. 19 Longhorns will look forward to their next matchup, being at home. They host the No. 7 Ole Miss Rebels in Week 8 as kickoff commences on Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
