Kogi State’s internally generated revenue (IGR) rose from about N600 million annually when the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) was established 10 years ago to N43.9 billion in 2025, Salihu Sule Enehe, the Revenue Agency’s chairman, has said.
Enehe stated this during the Agency’s 10th Anniversary and maiden Customer Service Week celebration in Lokoja, Kogi State capital, last week.
Represented by Emmanuel Yusufu, Director of Income Tax, Emmanuel Yusufu, Enehe said KGIRS had also supported flood victims and schools through its corporate social responsibility initiatives, including the distribution of exercise books.
On tax collection, Enehe said the Agency considered taxpayers’ financial circumstances while enforcing the law.
“It is not only about the law; we also look at the economic reality on the ground and the ability of the taxpayer to pay. Though tax must be transparent and we must be firm,” he said.
He urged staff to renew their commitment to the agency’s work, saying KGIRS also supported employees pursuing professional courses and attending conferences.
The celebration featured cultural performances, a cake-cutting ceremony and a raffle draw.
BusinessDay reports that six staff members received N10,000 each, while other employees received several other gifts.
