ACAPULCO, Guerrero — The port of Acapulco officially inaugurated its 2026-2027 cruise season on Monday with the arrival of the Eurodam, a vessel operated by Holland America Line. The ship carried a total of 2,913 people, including 2,039 passengers and 874 crew members, who were greeted by the state’s Secretary of Tourism, Rosy Pavón Flores.
Pavón Flores emphasized the significance of the arrival, noting that it marks the return of the Carnival Corporation consortium to the port after a 15-year absence. Furthermore, the Eurodam itself has not docked in Acapulco in 17 years.
The Secretary highlighted that the arrival strengthens Acapulco’s positioning as an international tourism destination. She stated that the cruise industry provides vital opportunities for local service providers, commerce, and families who depend on the tourism economy.
“It is an honor to welcome you to this land of sun, sea, history, and tradition,” Pavón Flores said. “The Ministry of Tourism of Guerrero reaffirms our commitment to strengthening cruise tourism and sharing the wealth of our state with the world.”
The vessel arrived from Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, under the flag of the Netherlands. During the visit, the port’s administration (Asipona) held a traditional “metopa” exchange ceremony with the ship’s captain, Jeroen Van Donselaar.
The arrival follows a change in the season’s schedule. The cruise ship Norwegian Joy was originally slated to arrive on Sunday, October 11, but was forced to cancel its visit due to maritime safety concerns regarding Hurricane Simon and Tropical Storm Rachel. To avoid the influence of these weather systems, the shipping line modified its itinerary, navigating from Los Angeles, California, to Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, instead of docking in Acapulco.
