Chicago Bears defensive end Montez Sweat was suspended for two games without pay for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
With this suspension, Sweat will miss this coming Sunday's Week 6 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons and Week 7's clash against the New England Patriots. He will be eligible to return on Oct. 23, days before Chicago's Week 8 matchup against the defending Super Bowl-champion Seattle Seahawks.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson addressed the suspension when speaking to reporters on Wednesday.
“I’m sure you guys all heard about Montez and his suspension," Johnson said. "Obviously, we're disappointed whenever we lose a player of his caliber for multiple games, but really not a whole lot for me to add on to that."
Through the first five games of his eighth NFL season, Sweat notched two sacks and four QB hits. He led the Bears with 10 sacks last year — recording his second career season with a double-digit sack total.

The Bears are 3-2 to begin the 2026 season following this past Sunday's 31-7 loss to the division-rival Green Bay Packers. They'll look to get back in the win column in Sunday's Week 6 matchup against the Falcons.
