Animal activists have written to Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to initiate action against North Corporation officials over the alleged indiscriminate removal of community dogs from railway stations and educational institutions.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Harini Raghavan, co-founder, Citizens for Animal Birth Control, and welfarist Nandita Subba Rao, called for accountability for alleged violations of Supreme Court directions on the management of stray dogs.
The organisation has raised concerns over the removal of dogs from premises, including Banaswadi Railway Station and educational institutions, alleging that officials have failed to properly implement the preventive measures required under the Supreme Court’s November 2025 directions. The order requires educational institutions and railway and bus stations to put in place measures such as fencing, boundary walls and gates. It also requires the designation of nodal officers to oversee preventive measures, alongside directions for the removal of stray dogs from specified institutional premises.
The letter argues that these requirements must be implemented together, with proper administrative oversight, rather than focusing solely on removing dogs. It has urged the State government to examine the conduct of the officials concerned and initiate disciplinary action wherever warranted. The organisation has called on officials to work with educational institutions, students and animal welfare groups to develop structured arrangements for managing campus dogs.
