Bayern Munich have reached a verbal agreement in principle with England captain Harry Kane over a new long-term contract that will keep the prolific striker at the German champions until June 2029.
The agreement represents a major step towards securing the future of one of European football’s most productive forwards, with the key terms, including salary and contract duration, reportedly settled. Blueprint reports
According to transfer reports published on Thursday, October 15, the contract documents have been sent to lawyers for final checks and approval, with both parties hoping to complete the signing as soon as possible.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, corroborating a report by Michael Bridge, disclosed that Kane had given his approval to the proposed extension, bringing Bayern closer to concluding negotiations that have progressed positively in recent weeks.
Although the agreement has been reached in principle, the new contract is yet to be formally signed, meaning the process remains subject to the final legal checks and completion of the required documentation.
New deal to extend Kane’s Bayern stay
Kane’s existing contract with Bayern runs until the summer of 2027, and the proposed extension would add two more years to his current deal, keeping him at the Allianz Arena until June 2029.
The 33-year-old joined the Bundesliga giants from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2023 in a club-record transfer after establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s leading goalscorers.
His arrival was intended to strengthen Bayern’s attacking options and help the club maintain its domestic dominance while pursuing further success in European competitions.
Since moving to Germany, Kane has consistently delivered goals, establishing himself as a central figure in the team’s attacking setup. His performances have also strengthened his position as one of the club’s most important players.
The extension would provide continuity for Bayern’s attacking plans while allowing Kane to continue competing at the highest level of European football into his mid-30s.
The agreement also reflects the club’s determination to retain a forward whose goalscoring record has made him a key component of its sporting project.
Goalscoring record strengthens Bayern’s resolve
Kane has enjoyed a highly productive spell since leaving England for Germany, maintaining the scoring consistency that made him a leading striker during his time at Tottenham.
Reports published ahead of the latest contract development put his Bayern return at more than 150 goals in approximately 154 appearances across all competitions.
He has also claimed the Bundesliga’s top-scorer award in each of his completed league seasons in Germany, underlining his influence on the team’s attacking output.
His ability to score regularly, contribute to the team’s build-up play and provide leadership has made him an important figure within the squad.
For Bayern, retaining Kane would mean keeping a proven goalscorer rather than entering the transfer market to search for a replacement capable of delivering a similar level of production.
The club would also avoid the uncertainty that could accompany negotiations for another elite striker, particularly as competition for established forwards remains intense among Europe’s leading teams.
Kane’s continued presence is expected to remain important as Bayern seek to defend their domestic standing and compete for major honours in Germany and Europe.
Kane had expressed satisfaction with life in Munich
The progress in negotiations follows earlier indications from Kane that he was comfortable at Bayern and open to extending his stay beyond his existing contract.
In September, the England captain said discussions over his future were going well and suggested that an announcement was not far away, although some details still needed to be resolved.
Bayern officials had similarly expressed optimism about the negotiations, indicating that both sides were interested in reaching an agreement.
The club’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, had previously described the discussions as positive while stressing that nothing was final until the contract had been signed.
Kane’s willingness to remain in Munich also comes after speculation about a possible return to the Premier League, where he spent most of his professional career before moving to Germany.
However, he has indicated that he is happy at Bayern and that playing outside England has broadened his perspective on football.
The proposed extension would therefore give the striker greater certainty about his immediate future while allowing him to continue pursuing trophies with the German club.
Bayern look to maintain stability
Securing Kane’s long-term future would be an important step in Bayern’s efforts to maintain stability in their squad and sustain their competitiveness in domestic and European football.
The England international has become a focal point of the club’s attack, with his goalscoring ability providing a dependable source of production across competitions.
His experience at international level and in major European matches also gives the team a senior figure around whom its attacking plans can be organised.
For the club’s management, an extension until 2029 would offer a clearer basis for planning future transfer windows, squad development and the integration of younger players.
It would also demonstrate Bayern’s willingness to commit to a key player beyond the age at which clubs often prefer shorter contract arrangements, provided his performances and contribution justify the investment.
The agreement in principle is therefore significant not only for Kane but also for Bayern’s wider sporting ambitions.
Formal signing expected after legal checks
With the principal terms reportedly agreed, attention has now shifted to the completion of the legal review and the signing of the documents.
The proposed contract is expected to keep Kane at Bayern until June 2029, provided the remaining formalities are completed successfully.
Neither the verbal agreement nor the reported completion of the main financial terms should be confused with a formally signed contract. The extension will become official once the necessary procedures have been concluded and the club confirms the deal.
For now, the development places Bayern and Kane close to securing a continuation of their partnership, with both sides reportedly aligned on the duration and financial terms of the proposed agreement.
