The Women’s Autumn T10 competition reached its conclusion on Sunday with a surprise two-run victory for the Nicosia side over pre-match favourites Limassol in the final fixture. Batting first, Nicosia set Limassol a target of 74. However, the loss of wickets at regular intervals disrupted Limassol’s chase, leaving them agonisingly short of victory. Limassol will also reflect on the 44 extras conceded, which proved particularly costly in such a closely contested match.
The four-team competition, featuring Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos, was played over four weekends and marked the conclusion of the year’s official activities for women cricketers. It has been a highly successful 2026 for the Cyprus women cricketers, who recorded nine T20I victories from their 10 completed matches. At domestic level, the number of teams doubled during the year, with local competitions taking place in both T10 and T20 formats. With further growth in the number of domestic hardball teams anticipated next year, the future of women’s cricket in Cyprus looks increasingly promising.
In the HurryCurry-sponsored Cyprus Cricket 40-over competition, Nicosia Tigers became the first team this year to bat their full quota of 40 overs, thanks largely to a long-awaited century from National Team opener Roman Mazumder. Roman received valuable support from fellow National Team player Karan Singh as Nicosia Tigers posted an imposing 280/7. In reply, Limassol Telugu were bowled out for just 88, with National Team all-rounder Arjun Shahi producing an outstanding spell of 4/26. Nicosia Tigers and Limassol Warriors have now secured their places in the semi-finals, while Nicosia Tigers’ clash against Telugu11 next week will determine the final group standings.
In the other 40-over fixture, played at Happy Valley 2, another National Team player, Mangala Gunasekara, delivered a superb all-round performance to lead MSN Sport Club to a convincing 154-run victory over Kipro Tigers. Batting first, MSN Sport Club posted 209, with Mangala top-scoring with an impressive 65. He then dominated with the ball, claiming 5/25, including a memorable hat-trick. With only three group matches remaining, the race for the semi-finals remains wide open, with all five teams in the group still in contention.
The T10 competition proved a challenging outing for Gujrat Lions, who suffered two successive defeats. They first went down to Markhor by 22 runs, managing just 63/9 in response to Markhor’s 85/6. Their second defeat came against Global 75 Cricketers, who continued their remarkable start to the competition by chasing down Gujrat Lions’ 67/6 in just 6.5 overs, losing only three wickets. Global 75 Cricketers have now recorded their second consecutive successful chase, continuing what is shaping up to be a fairy-tale campaign.
The afternoon T10 fixtures at Happy Valley 2 featured Larnaca Kings and both Moufflons teams. Larnaca Kings edged out the senior Moufflons side in a nail-biting finish, chasing down 72/8 with four wickets in hand off the penultimate ball. However, their fortunes changed in the next encounter, as New Limassol Moufflons comfortably chased Larnaca Kings’ total of 75/7 in just 8.3 overs, winning by six wickets. The victory marked New Limassol Moufflons’ third consecutive win in the competition.
