Colombo, October 24 (Daily Mirror)- A 12-year-old schoolboy was killed in a crocodile attack at Wambatuwewa in the Maneruwa area, within the Galkiriyagama Police Division.
The victim, a Grade 8 student at Maneruwa Maha Vidyalaya, had reportedly gone to the lake yesterday evening to bathe, accompanied by an adult woman. While he was seated on the steps of a bathing area submerged in the water, a crocodile lurking in the lake suddenly grabbed him and dragged him away.
The boy’s body was recovered from the lake after hours of searching by the residents.
Reports indicate that this is the second child to have died in a crocodile attack at the same lake. In a separate incident, an adult who was attacked by a crocodile at Wambatuwewa reportedly lost part of his arm.
The Galkiriyagama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
