The Diplomat Season 4 has only been out for a matter of hours and we’re already wondering when we’re getting Season 5. But with that shocking ending, can you even blame us!?
**Spoilers ahead for Season 4 of The Diplomat, now streaming on Netflix**
If there is one thing that Kate (Keri Russell) and Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) are going to do, it’s make us wish that the season would go on forever, especially after leaving us with our jaws on the floor as Kate and Hal walk out of the G7 Summit and resign in protest of President Grace Penn (Allison Janney). Even better, the U.S. Ambassador to the U.K. and the Vice President are joined by Secretary of State Miguel Ganon (Miguel Sandoval) and White House Chief of Staff Billie Appiah (Nana Mensah). Talk about a shakeup.
Considering that the series has never seen a season without Kate at her post or Hal otherwise occupied, Season 5 will likely explore an entirely new side of their relationship and what they can do in the face of an administration that is crossing lines and doing it without a care. We can trust that it’s going to be good.
Since we are already on the edge of our seat, here is everything we know about The Diplomat Season 5, including how Season 4’s ending could change the formula for the show in a major way and when we might be able to expect a new season.
Will There Be a Season 5 of The Diplomat?
As of October 15, a.k.a. the release date for Season 4 of The Diplomat, it is currently unknown if Netflix will be making a fifth season of the series.
When Will The Diplomat Season 5 Premiere on Netflix?
If Netflix is to greenlight The Diplomat Season 5, we can all but expect to see it by early fall 2027, as the show is one of the most consistent on streaming television. Given the last two seasons have come out in October of their respective years, we would say it’s a safe bet to guess Season 5 could be mid-October next year.
What Will Season 5 of The Diplomat Be About?
This is the million-dollar question: What is The Diplomat Season 5 about? Given that Season 4 ends with Kate, Hal, Billie, and Secretary of State Miguel Ganon publicly turning in their badges and resigning in the middle of a G7 meeting, the show is seemingly taking off the guardrails for the first time. It’s safe to assume that Season 5 will follow the backlash of the walkouts, but Kate and posse being outside of their traditional roles is certainly uncharted water for the series.
What Has The Cast Said About The Diplomat Season 5?
While the show has yet to get picked up for a fifth season, the cast is very much on board, especially after Janney, Sewell, and Russell each received an Emmy nomination for their work in Season 3, with Janney taking home the trophy. Earlier this year, Russell also won an Actor Award, formerly called the SAG Award, marking serious recognition from her peers in the industry.
As for their hopes for a Season 5, during their interview with DECIDER for Season 4, Sewell and Russell both expressed interest in doing more, saying “fingers crossed” that Netflix gives them the go-ahead.
How Did Season 4 of The Diplomat End?
As mentioned above, Season 4 of The Diplomat concludes with Kate, Hal, Billie, and Ganon walking out of a major G7 meeting in protest of President Grace Penn’s blatant boundary crossing. The final straw for the foursome appeared to have been the “firing” of Stuart (Ato Essandoh), who was recalled back to Washington, D.C., from London after submitting a complaint through the U.S. official dissent channel against the Penn Administration for their handling of The Poseidon.
