The Enugu State Police Command has ordered an investigation into an alleged shooting outside the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) secretariat in Enugu, which reportedly left a man injured and damaged five vehicles.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, October 11, 2026, saying the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to identify and arrest those responsible for the incident.
The alleged shooting occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, in front of the party’s secretariat, where unidentified armed hoodlums reportedly shot a man repairing a vehicle parked along the road.
The incident also resulted in damage to the windscreens of five parked vehicles.
According to the statement, police operatives responded to a distress call, restored normalcy and rushed the injured man to a hospital for treatment.
“The injured victim is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition,” the statement said.
Ndukwe added that the police commissioner had ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure that those behind the alleged shooting were brought to justice.
In a separate incident on the same day, joint police and military operatives dispersed suspected NDC members who gathered at the entrance of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 11:30 a.m. when airport authorities restricted party members from entering the facility in large numbers to receive their governorship candidate.

The police said the intervention was aimed at addressing the disorder at the airport entrance.
The Commissioner of Police urged political parties and their supporters to avoid violence and ensure their activities complied with the law and existing peace accords.
“He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to providing a level playing field for all political parties and urged them to notify the Police of their planned activities to facilitate adequate security arrangements,” the statement added.
The police command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state as political activities continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
