The Starknet community has strongly supported exploring a transition from the Ethereum-based second-layer structure to an independent first-layer blockchain. In a seven-day preliminary vote that concluded today, over 93.5% of the votes cast were in favor of the proposal.
According to information shared by StarkWare, more than 2,800 wallets participated in the vote. The company stated that it did not participate in the voting in order to avoid influencing the community’s decision with its own votes.

The primary reason for the change in focus is post-quantum security. The team argues that even if Starknet makes progress in its own computational structure, it will remain dependent on the underlying network due to Ethereum bridge and data accessibility connections.
StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson said they aim to release a first draft of the technical document resulting from the research to the public in November.
However, the vote does not mean that the separation from Ethereum is final. A genuine transition proposal will also need to be prepared and resubmitted for community approval. According to the Starknet Foundation, whichever path is chosen, STRK will remain the native token, no new tokens will be issued, and Ethereum bridges will remain open.
