Raging floodwaters sweep several into overflowing LA channel, prompting dramatic rescue

Frightening floodwaters swept four people away in the San Fernando Valley Thursday morning, leaving first responders to conduct a dramatic water rescue.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a report of a man and a woman in the Pacoima Wash near 15012 W. Parthenia St. in North Hills, as rain flooded the narrow channel.

As the two were rescued via helicopter, first responders then began searching for two other people. A third person clinging to  a structure was spotted and rescued. The fourth person reported missing had self-rescued, officials said.

The emergency comes as heavy rain battered Los Angeles.
