The unexplained wealth of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio, could reach P1.5 billion at the maximum and P817 million at the minimum, lawyer and certified public accountant Alex Cabrera said Monday.
The prosecution’s witness made the testimony during Day 38 of the impeachment trial of the Vice President, assuring that his team did not make any double recording or double entry in its forensic investigation of the Vice President and her husband’s bank records, bank transactions, income tax returns, financial statements and other corporate records.
“I did not include confidential funds, which is P475 million. Our discrepancy with AMLC, if we are not going to be conservative, would be P100 million. For GenCorp. [undeclared sales], if we use 45%, that would be P250 million. So P350 million plus P475 million is P700 million,” Cabrera said when asked by Senate impeachment court presiding officer Francis Escudero what his estimates would be, ceiling-wise, rather than the conservative estimate which is just at P817 million in total.
Asked what would be the ceiling amount, Cabrera said, “P1.5 billion.”
Asked by Escudero whether the amount will go down if the couple accounts for tax dues, Cabrera answered in the affirmative.
“If there are payables, we will deduct that from that (P1.5 billion) amount,” Cabrera said.
Cabrera also assured that his findings of P817 unexplained wealth from 2022 to 2025 are conservative or bare minimum, and that there are no double entries.
“These are all official documents. We meticulously reviewed them. Four eyes, six-yes review, and we used software technology in comparing records. We made sure that a remittance is not for two accounts. We made sure of that,” he said.
“In case of doubt or making an error, we don’t include it. Because if we have double entries, our estimate would exceed,” he added. —LDF, GMA News
